Maaslax would like to introduce you to a number of its coaches, board members, and players. Interesting insights into the team and and the sport are a promise, but check it out yourself!

This interview will be starring Inki Papenfuss, the girls team’s head coach.

How long have you been coaching?

I have been coaching the Lamas girls team since September 2013 and I am really enjoying it so far.

Have you coached another lacrosse team prior to your time at Maastricht Lacrosse?

No I haven’t coached any other team before but I have been the team captain of lacrosse teams before, which helped on my tasks as a coach.

What do you like about coaching?

I like seeing the progress the team is making during each practice – this holds true fort he team, but also for the individual level. It is very satisfying to see when things work out as I planned them beforehand. But the most important thing about coaching is to spread the lacrosse spirit and to see the dedication and efforts my team members put in.

Have you developed a coaching philosophy? If yes, what is it?

My coaching philosophy is to try and keep it simple at the start for rookies. Other than that, I try to be concise in my style of coaching and stick to a red line within each practice.

What are the strength of the Maastricht lacrosse team?

The strength of the team is their connection and friendship on and off the field.

What skills does the team still have to work on?

The team still needs to work on the settled defense and offense, as well as the overview on the field. But this will develop over time.

Are there any improvements of the team in the recent past?

The team has gotten a lot better in playing together and communicating on the field. I am confident that this trend will continue in the future if the players remain dedicated as they are now.

Can you think of a team moment to remember?

A good team moment to remember was the Newcomerstournament in September where we reached the finals even though most of the girls only played for a month. It was a great start into the seaon in my opinion.
